SHOUTcast is a streaming media technology solution which enables audio and video to be broadcast across the internet. Audio listeners can access the stream through any live MP3 supported media player, e.g. Winamp, Windows Media Player, Real Player, as the encoded audio format is MPEG Layer-3, (also known as MP3), whilst video channels can be played in Winamp or an embedded browser player.
We have chosen to build our infrastructure on this technology, simply because the MP3 audio format so widely supported, unlike other proprietary formats, and the video solution is based on an open-source technology with the facility to increase quality through the use of licenced plugins. Furthermore, all the software tools required by our clients to encode their channel is available free of charge.
Our distributed server systems are located in the UK, Europe and the USA, and are connected to some of the worlds highest capacity networks. This ensures that our clients channels reache listeners and viewers anywhere across the globe reliably, efficiently, and without the risk of drop-outs or network congestion.
By 'rebroadcasting' channels across our server network, listeners or viewers in, for example, London may connect to the London or European server network, whilst users in New York may connect to our US server network. This ensures a reliable listening or viewing experience, as the connection between the users media player and our server is never too far away.
All network bandwidth to our servers is 100% dedicated, so you can be sure that the bandwidth you purchase for your channel is never shared between other users, and we do not operate a data transfer charge with a monthly allowance. With our pricing scheme, what you see is what you get, and your bandwidth allocation is yours to use 24 hours-a-day, with no risk of extra hidden charges for 'overuse'.
If you wish to discuss your requirements in more detail, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your requirments.

Clients wishing to access detailed statistics on their channel may susbcribe to our 'Sawmill' statistics system. Each night, Sawmill analyses the raw log files from our global SHOUTcast network, and presents this information in a detailed graphical form. From this system, clients can ascertain the number of listeners who have accessed their channel, and drill down to gain infomation on monthly, weekly, daily or hourly usage and listener location.
